Fishing has been an important part of the UAE's economy for many centuries and most of the tribes relied on the fishing industry during Bedouin times.

Fishing methods:

• Hadra - fence traps placed perpendicular to the outside of the shore. Hadra traps are in demand right along coastlines and offshore islands.

• Gargour - a fishing trap made from the leaves of palm trees, woven in a semicircular shape, weighted to be the seabed with rocks or cement. They are baited with fresh or rotten fish to attract other fish.

• Al Salia - is a fish trap that resembles an umbrella with holes around it, used to catch a school of fish.

• Garagir - wire net basket traps are only used on licensed wooden fishing boats known as "Lanshs".
